About Me – more than you probably want or need to know…

I’m Deb Mathews and I’m currently living in Central California. I am the proud parent of 3 children, one of whom is graduating college in May. My other two are 9 year old boy girl twins who are in 3rd grade.

I am an accountant by trade and worked in the alternative energy industry as a controller for 10 years. I began in the accounting field following graduation from college and worked in Public Accounting. I left public accounting when my oldest was 3 in order to be a better parent. From there I went to work in private industry and finally found my way into Wind Energy as a controller of one of the first Wind Energy Companies in the Nation.

When I was reaching the great age of 40 I discovered a creative side to myself. I started out by offering to create a web site for my daughter’s softball team and the rest is history. While I have not,  up until recently, made web designing a huge part of my life, it’s been a mainstay and now I will be focusing a big part of life toward developing this business.
Many know me from my involvement in the resale industry with Castaways for Kids and Castaways Concepts. Castaways For Kids opened in 1999 and I was in the background, keeping books and doing the website and helping out in any way that I could considering that I lived 2 1/2 hours away. I later moved to the area the store was located and in 2004 Jan and I opened Castaways Concepts. I was involved in the day to day operations of the women’s store and came to love it much more than I knew I could. In August 2006 Jan and I merged both stores to create one GREAT store.

Last year in June, I was a workshop speaker for NARTS, the National Association of Resale and Thrift Shops. My workshop was “The Importance of a Website”.  I received a lot of great feedback and hope to continue and expand on that topic for my resale peers.

Fast forward to now… owing to a disability with my son I had to leave the store, but resale and all the wonderful people I’ve met along the way are still in my heart. I am now working from home and doing this other thing I love: websites.  Additionally, authoring this blog will be a way to answer lots of questions in an informal format.  I welcome your comments and hope one day to be of help to those who need my help.

Deb
