Why is resale so different from other retailers on the web?

Monday, July 16th, 2007

Resale websites are primarily different because most businesses have one target market – their customers. They don’t market their website to their suppliers. BUT, resalers must do this in order to continue to get the word out.

Inquiring minds want to know… when you’re open, what your consignment or direct purchasing policies are and just how good you are at marketing your business and eventually their items. They want to get a feel for your business and policies and this can all be accomplished at “their” convenience by you providing the information right on your website

Information you can provide to potential suppliers on your website:

  • Your intake/purchasing policies
  • Layout your Seasonal intake periods
  • Account information if your software provides that ability
  • Consignor agreement
  • Items you’re looking for NOW
  • Typical items you accept
  • Item preparation guide
  • Link to How To Consign

Ideally, through your marketing effort on your website you want to convince your potential suppliers that you are the one for them.

For existing suppliers, you continue to offer them flexibility and information that pertains directly to them and they know they can obtain this information at their own convenience – even if it’s midnight.

So, in summary, while most retailers are selling their business to customers we have the added effort of selling our business to our suppliers and maintaining their happiness as well.
